nostalgia: star ferry, old hong kong

Pictures of old Hong Kong makes my heart want to skip and hop and take little leaps. Obviously, older is not always better and it's easy to look back with rose-tinted glasses, but Hong Kong was just so pretty in the 1940s and '50s, and I sort of wish she retained more of her fabled East-meets-West charm. One thing that never seems to change much, though, is the beloved Star Ferry, which still traverses (the ever shrinking) Victoria Harbour day in, day out. It's like a reassuring slice of heritage floating between Hong Kong and Kowloon. I may be one of the few people who still buy postcards when I travel but I love these images of the Star Ferry through the ages.
